To make the most of your day on the water, consider bringing along a few essentials: sunglasses, sunscreen, a camera or GoPro, food and snacks, beverages, and appropriate raingear depending on the forecast.

For ice fishing trips, dressing properly is key to staying comfortable. Be sure to wear warm winter clothing such as boots,(ice cleats depending on conditions), snow pants, a jacket, gloves, and a hat. While heated shacks will be available, some of the fishing will take place outside, so being prepared for the elements makes a big difference.

Musky trips should be planned ahead of time so we can make sure everything is ready for your adventure. Because musky fishing requires specialized equipment—such as a large landing net, dedicated musky rods and reels, and oversized lures—I don’t keep this gear in the boat at all times. A little advance notice ensures we have the right setup for a safe, successful, and exciting day on the water.

Ice fishing at its best; it was a diamond day. Jason Heindl created an ice fishing experience for a group of novice anglers, ensuring our safety first and our fun and success at fishing as an equally vital goal. His expertise provided us with four different ways of ice fishing, securing six different species of fish over two days. We fished on two different lakes with unique inherent beauty and adventure. The temperature outside was in the low teens, but the huts were cozy and provided a reprieve from the outdoor fishing when needed. Jason is a native of the area and is undoubtedly an expert angler who could guide other experts, which is probably his real wheelhouse. His time with us proves that his expertise and demeanor also afford a novice the experience of a lifetime. Notably, he is also a joy to be around, has a great sense of humor, and is not invasive yet engaging. He is an incredible teacher and listener. We cannot recommend him highly enough..

Absolutely incredible experience with Heindl’s Fishtails Guide Service! From start to finish, everything was first-class. The equipment was top-notch, the ice houses were warm and comfortable, and the fishing was outstanding. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and made sure everyone in our group was having a great time and staying on fish all day.

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a first-timer, they make the experience fun, easy, and memorable. We caught plenty of fish, learned a lot, and created memories we’ll be talking about for years.
